Forging a Path between the Cross and the Hammer

Guided by the Wisdom of Our Forebears

Mission Statement

The Odinsberg Ancestral Faith Alliance (OAFA) is committed to the restoration and preservation of the sacred traditions of the Northern tribes through the practice of Norse Dual-Faith—a harmonious blend of the Old Norse religion and early Christian theology. As an ancestral kindred, we honor the virtues of our forebears and their enduring spiritual journey, rooted in devotion to the Æsir, Vanir, Christ, and the Saints. Through authentic rituals, heritage-based education, and ordained leadership, we guide individuals on this ancestral path, fostering a legacy of balance, unity, and purpose for generations to come.

Weaving Norse Tradition

At the Odinsberg Ancestral Faith Alliance (OAFA), we weave together the Old Norse religion of Forn Sidr, with Nyr Sidr, a distinct form of Christianity rooted in Norse tradition. This path unites both faiths in a way where each enriches the other.

Forn Sidr, meaning "Old Ways," connects us to the land, our ancestors, and the divine forces shaping the world. Nyr Sidr, meaning 'New Path', teaches divine love, grace, and forgiveness, guiding spiritual growth and compassion. By integrating these two faiths, we create a balanced practice that honors both our Norse heritage and the teachings of Christ.

In this path, the wisdom of our ancestors and the power of Nyr Sidr work together, fostering wisdom, fortitude, and harmony. These traditions are not in conflict, but complementary, each offering a unique perspective on our spiritual journey.

Through Norse Dual-Faith, we honor the past, enrich the present, and inspire the future, weaving a tradition that guides us toward a balanced and meaningful life. This is the essence of the OAFA—where the old and the new come together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

Leadership of Faith and Tradition

OAFA’s leadership structure embodies the unity of Forn Sidr and Nyr Sidr, harmonizing Old Norse philosophy with early Christian theology. It is composed of Folkholders, Kindred Deacons, and Gothi-Prestrs, each entrusted with preserving tradition, fostering community, and guiding spiritual growth along the Norse Dual-Faith path.

Our ordinations are founded upon two enduring pillars of authority: the Apostolic Succession of the Old Catholic tradition, preserving an unbroken spiritual lineage, and the Ancestral authority of our Shield-Maiden ancestor of Birka, Sweden. Her courage and leadership inspire us as we work to reestablish her legacy, reviving the faith and traditions of her time within our kindreds.

Folkholder

(Keeper of Tradition)

Lay members dedicated to preserving cultural heritage and spiritual balance. Folkholders serve as the roots of OAFA, fostering kinship, upholding ancestral values, and strengthening community bonds.

Kindred Deacon

(Minister of the People)

Ordained ministers who bridge ancestral wisdom with Christian values through Norse and Christian rites. Kindred Deacons are entrusted with conducting blóts, leading rituals, and nurturing the faith of their kindreds. Ordination occurs through sumbel, symbolized by the Norse shield.

Gothi-Prestr

(High Priest of Ancestral Faith)

The Gothi-Prestr embodies the sacred harmony of Norse Dual-Faith. As OAFA’s highest spiritual office, this role leads all rituals, including sumbels and Holy Communion, while safeguarding the integration of Norse traditions and Christian theology. Ordination to this role is performed through the laying on of hands, conferring Apostolic lineage and Ancestral authority.

Christ: A Noble Mediator

As Scandinavian and Germanic tribes migrated into the Roman world, they often encountered and adopted the teachings of Arius over Roman orthodoxy. Arius's portrayal of Jesus as divine but distinct from the Father—a created being and subordinate to God—offered a vision of Christ as a noble mediator rather than as fully equal to God in rank and being.

For the OAFA, this understanding resonates deeply with Germanic cosmology, where gods and divine beings fulfill distinct roles within a sacred hierarchy. Arius’s emphasis on Jesus as a bridge to the divine mirrored the Norse emphasis on intermediaries within their own spiritual practices.

Divine Web: God in All

The OAFA embraces a panentheistic theology, seeing God as both transcendent and immanent—present within all creation yet beyond it. This vision interweaves the divine with the universe, illuminating the earth, heavens, and all life. Yggdrasil, the World Tree, symbolizes this interconnectedness, embodying the sacred unity of all things.

By honoring God as both present within and beyond nature, OAFA fosters a respectful relationship with the earth as sacred, with God's spirit sustaining each tree, river, and mountain. This panentheism enriches the spiritual journey, aligning with Arius's view of Christ as the bridge between humanity and the divine.

Norse Dual-Faith: A Tradition Reborn

The Odinsberg Ancestral Faith Alliance (OAFA) is built on the blending of ancient Scandinavian beliefs and early Christianity. This harmony reflects a long tradition of combining spiritual paths, dating back to Late Antiquity and the Viking Age.

Historical accounts, such as Snorri Sturluson’s Prose Edda, show how Norse gods were venerated as ancestral exemplars who embodied divine attributes. Odin stands for wisdom and the pursuit of knowledge, while Freyja represents love, beauty, and the life-giving force of fertility. In Norse Dual-Faith, these ideals are complemented by Jesus, seen as the Logos—divine reason and the embodiment of divine purpose.

Figures like Helgi the Lean, who honored both Christ and the Norse gods, and King Hákon the Good, who merged Christian prayers with Yule traditions, show how these paths coexisted. Even the Visigoths combined Arian Christianity with older traditions. These examples highlight the balance between traditions, similar to the unity of the Æsir and Vanir gods in Norse mythology.

OAFA continues this legacy by upholding Norse Dual-Faith. Through ceremonies, prayers, and rituals, we honor both the divine unity of the heavens and the earthly traditions of our ancestors.

Who We Are

The Odinsberg Ancestral Faith Alliance (OAFA) is a coalition of Dual-Faith kindreds from the Berg clan, dedicated to reviving Norse Dual-Faith—a sacred tradition blending Scandinavian Heathenism and Christianity.

Founded by Norse Heathens and Old Catholic clergy, OAFA is governed by the Odinsberg Tribal Council, which maintains Apostolic lineage and Ancestral authority. In our Norse Dual-Faith tradition, Christ is honored as a noble chieftain serving the Allfather’s purpose. Our name, Odinsberg, reflects the unity of Odin’s legacy and the enduring strength of our clan.

Through this balanced approach, OAFA explores the divine through both the Cross and the Hammer, forging a shared spiritual journey that celebrates our faith and heritage.
